Courtney Kozek, PA-C, on the Life-Changing Impact of Direct Primary Care

Courtney Kozek (PA-C) Reflects on Nearly Two Years with Maple Health DPC

At Maple Health Direct Primary Care (DPC), patient-centered care is more than just a philosophy—it’s a way of life. Courtney Kozek, has been with Maple Health DPC for nearly two years, and in that time, she has experienced firsthand how this innovative healthcare model has transformed her approach to medicine. We sat down with Courtney to hear about her journey, the benefits of DPC, and how it has positively impacted both her career and personal life.

A New Approach to Patient Care

When transitioning to Maple Health DPC, Courtney found herself in a completely different medical landscape than she was used to.

“My first 17 months here have been great! It took a while to adjust from being constantly stressed and overworked to calming down, taking my time with patients, and truly learning how to enjoy being a Physician Assistant again,” she shared. “I love meeting and taking care of new families, especially watching the kids I saw as newborns become toddlers.”

The shift from a high-pressure, fast-paced environment to a more patient-focused setting allowed Courtney to rekindle her passion for medicine and develop meaningful relationships with those she cares for.

The Direct Primary Care Difference

DPC is revolutionizing the healthcare experience for both patients and providers. Unlike traditional insurance-based models, DPC eliminates the red tape, allowing providers to focus on what truly matters—patient care.

“I say this all the time, but it’s been a breath of fresh air,” Courtney emphasized. “To truly have the time to get to know my patients and provide better access to care has been a blessing for both my patients and myself.”

By reducing administrative burdens and improving accessibility, Maple Health DPC ensures that patients receive comprehensive, personalized care without the usual constraints of the healthcare system.

The Power of a Low Patient-Physician Ratio

One of the biggest advantages of the DPC model is the ability to limit patient panels, allowing providers to spend more quality time with each individual.

“The low patient-physician ratio allows me to have 30-minute to hour-long visits with patients and address every concern they have without rushing or time constraints,” Courtney explained. “It allows me the time to be more thorough in my assessments, patient education, and treatment options. Also, I refer to specialists way less than I did at my previous position!”

This personalized approach not only enhances patient satisfaction but also improves health outcomes by fostering stronger provider-patient relationships and more comprehensive care plans.

A Work-Life Balance That Works

For many healthcare professionals, achieving a healthy work-life balance can be a challenge. However, Maple Health DPC prioritizes both patient and provider well-being.

“My favorite thing is being a mom! Working at Maple Health DPC allows me to have the best work-life balance,” Courtney said. “I have weekends, Mondays, and evenings for family time and am in the office Tuesday through Friday. I love that patients are still able to get ahold of me directly through text, phone call, or email even when I’m not in the office. That way, I don’t miss a thing and I know their needs (and mine) are always being met.”

This flexible, patient-friendly approach ensures that both healthcare providers and their families can thrive, without sacrificing quality of care.

Looking Ahead

Courtney Kozek’s journey with Maple Health DPC highlights the profound impact that Direct Primary Care can have on both providers and patients. By prioritizing accessibility, quality time, and meaningful connections, Maple Health DPC is redefining healthcare—one patient at a time.
